Who is required to file a business tax return?
Every business must file an annual tax return with the IRS, regardless of its activity status. Failure to do so can lead to penalties for both non-filing and non-payment. Additionally, businesses with non-US founders face significant automatic penalties for failing to file specific forms reporting foreign ownership. The best practice is to file annually and ensure timely submission to avoid these penalties.
What other filing responsibilities does my c-corp have?
A C-corporation must annually file a Federal return (Form 1120) along with associated forms, including informational returns for payments to non-employees. Additionally, a state tax return and possibly a state franchise tax return, depending on your registration, are required. You may also need to handle employment taxes for US-based employees and sales taxes. While these requirements may seem overwhelming, we offer assistance to navigate through them.
What other filing responsibilities does my LLC have?
The federal tax requirements for an LLC depend on whether it is a Single Member or a Multi Member LLC.
- For Single Member LLCs, they are treated like Sole Proprietorships, and typically file their regular 1040 along with Schedule C.
- Multi Member LLCs are treated as partnerships and must file Form 1065. Each member then reports their share of profits or losses on their individual tax returns.
Additionally, you may need to file informational returns such as 1099s for payments to non-employees. A state tax return is also likely required, along with a State Franchise tax return if applicable to your registration state. If you have employees in the US or engage in sales, you may also need to handle employment and sales taxes.
Navigating these requirements can be overwhelming, but we’re here to provide assistance.

Someone from the IRS called me and asked for information on my business, what should I do?
Important reminder: The IRS never initiates contact with taxpayers by phone; they always send letters first. Therefore, if you receive a call claiming to be from the IRS, it’s almost certainly a scam. These scammers often aim to gather sensitive business information. Stay vigilant and contact the IRS directly if you have any concerns.
